    About the Campus Director

    Professor Mari Jansen Van Rensburg

    Prof Mari Jansen van Rensburg joined Middlesex University Mauritius as Campus Director on 1st of May, 2018. Mari has extensive experience in multi-cultural and multidisciplinary settings with in-depth knowledge of Higher Education in Africa. She has a successful career history at the University of South Africa where she served as a Professor in Strategic Management and held several senior leadership roles and positions. She ended her career at Unisa as Academic Director of the Graduate School of Business Leadership. This is one of the largest Business Schools in Africa. Mari’s formal qualifications include a BCom (Marketing Management), BCom (Hons), MCom and DCom (Business Management). Mari specialises, publishes, and consults in the fields of strategic and relationship marketing as well as change and strategic management. As Campus Director, Mari leads the Mauritius campus on behalf of the Joint Venture partners. She is responsible for shaping and delivering the strategic plan for the Campus, meeting financial objectives and managing resources and budgets. It is her responsibility to ensure that the branch campus maintains the highest standards in student experience, academic achievement, academic excellence and staff wellbeing.

    Dr. Lee Pheiffer

    Deputy Director Academic

    Dr Lee Pheiffer joined Middlesex University Mauritius on 1 October 2021. Lee comes to Middlesex with a long history of working in education and training in various countries, more specifically in Southern Africa and the Middle East regions. She has fulfilled a number of different strategic roles and functions related to quality assurance in higher education, academic staff development and the development and maintenance of Qualification Frameworks in South Africa, Namibia and Oman.  She has conducted commissioned research in higher education for various organisations, including a university in Mozambique.  In her quality assurance role, she has developed quality management systems, at an institutional level as well as at a national level.  During her time as a consultant, she has also worked extensively with industry in the development of frameworks for training. Her doctoral studies focussed on the institutionalisation of RPL in universities. Her research interest focuses on teaching and learning, assessment and policy. On taking the position as Deputy Director Academic, Lee is responsible for ensuring that the high standards of academic quality at the university are maintained, and further developed, through engagement with all aspects of academic life at the branch campus.

    Ms. Dominique Arlanda

    Associate Director (Professional Services)

    Ms Dominique Arlanda joined Middlesex University Mauritius in January 2013 as Campus Admin Manager and was promoted to Associate Professional Services Director in December 2016. Dominique was born in Mauritius and completed a BA (Education) through Edith Cowan University (Australia) followed by an MA (Sport Management) degree conferred by the University of North London. She worked in the UK retailing industry for five years before returning to Mauritius. Her experience on the island includes being a Planning Manager at the local Curtin University Branch Campus and Deputy Headteacher at a private English school.  In her current role, Dominique is responsible for the proper running and maintenance of our Campus and the non-academic student experience on campus. She also manages support services which includes IT support, student support, human resources and security.

    Sabina Joomye

    Sabina Joomye

    All senior leadership communications go through the Personal Assistant (PA) Sabina Joomye. As PA, Sabina works closely with the SLT to provide executive support and assistance, usually on a one-to-one basis. She helps the SLT make the best use of their time by dealing with administrative duties.

    Sabina has extensive knowledge of both the campus, its personnel, and a clear understanding of the Middlesex vision. As a result, the SLTs often rely on her expertise, trusting that work will be handled efficiently in cases of their absence.
